Our top 5 Pure Pops swim spots

Palm Beach

Hit the Pittwater side of the peninsula for aquatic adventures – paddle boarding, kayaking (all things floating) and the perfect wave-free swimming option. All that swimming does wonders for the appetite, and the Boathouse fish and chips are as iconic as their blue and white stripes.

North Curl Curl

This spot has everything you could possibly need, caves (for the kids), sheltered Northern swimming corner, rock pools for swimming and surf. Blue Fork Kiosk (North Curl Curl Surf Life Saving) is open late in summer so you can extend your lazy summer afternoon into the night. Thank you daylight savings.

Manly

We couldn’t decide which Manly Beach spot was our fave, so why choose? The beauty of Manly is that if there is onshore wind on one stretch of sand you can generally count on the other being sheltered and calm. Manly is spoilt for choice. South Steyne or Shelly Beach? – If you can’t decide, join the Bold & Beautiful Swim Squad. Dive in at South Steyne (7am) and take in the sites from the water all the way to Shelly- you’ll end up staying all day. Don’t forget your snorkel.

Clontarf

Is there a more quintessential harbourside location? Boats, gentle sloping sandy beach and a sheltered spot to lay your towel whichever the wind is blowing. From the early bird walkers to the late-night picnicker there is plenty of parking and the iconic Clonny’s kiosk has been recently renovated into the very stylish Bosk. Or pull up your boat, kayak, SUP or pool noodle directly to the Clontarf marina – the coffee at Sandy Bear is super and the pastries make a great combo with a morning splash.

Dee Why

Dee Why would have to be the most family friendly splash spot on the Northern Beaches. The toddlers paddling pool adjoining the ocean pool on the point is one of the best pools for kids to have fun safely. Ready for the waves – stroll back along the coastal path to the main beach and stop at the kiosk literally on the beach – The Beach Shed. Feel like a pop at 6.30am these guys are pumping from the minute they open to the minute they close. Great local spot with the best view.
